Chapter One

From the corner of his eye, Micah detected that Eden was staring at him again, a faint glimmer in his eyes. The man, now fully dressed, looked every inch the dignified surface-dweller he was. His hair was parted and set in place without any indication that only moments ago, desperate hands had raked through it. But it was that soft, gentle smile that unnerved Micah the most. Who was this man, really? This man who seemed so innocent, so innocuous, yet also so confident. Almost powerful…

“What?” Micah demanded.

“I just…like looking at you,” Eden admitted. The words brought a flush to Micah’s cheeks, and he bit back a snarl of indignity. What was with this guy? His candor, his openness. It was becoming too much for him to bear.

“Yeah, well. Don’t get used to it. It was one fuck. That’s it.” Micah made to shoulder past him towards the door, but Eden held out a hand to stop him.

“Wait.” His voice was strong, his body imposing as it blocked Micah’s path. “I want to see you again.”

“No,” was Micah’s response. The frown that settled over Eden’s brow might have almost changed Micah’s mind. Almost.”

“I don’t understand—”

“I don’t make a habit of repeat…customers. I told you, I’m not a whore. More than one time, and we’re crossing into dangerous territory.”

“You don’t want to develop feelings,” Eden said as if coming to some sudden realization. Micah rolled his eyes.
